Why the West is Waking Up to Ancient Wisdom

You know how it goes—everything old becomes new again. Thousands of years ago, people relied on nature and spiritual techniques to live their lives and heal. These ancient ways of being originated in the East. Meanwhile, in the West, we thought we were more sophisticated and educated, and we dismissed Eastern practices as outdated. And how’s that working out for us? Today, much of the population is on pharmaceutical drugs, seeing psychiatrists, struggling with obesity, infertility, and facing diseases like cancer and diabetes—conditions almost unknown in some Eastern cultures.

Imagine eating fresh, pesticide-free, unprocessed food. Many Westerners resist that idea because we’ve been raised in a world of convenience—quick and easy all the way.

Imagine having downtime to do nothing, meditate, and just be. Again, Westerners tend to shy away from that, preferring either to work more to keep up with the Joneses or to spend downtime at the pub.

Imagine paying enough attention to your body that you notice when it needs support—and responding with ancient herbal remedies like essential oils and herbs. Many Westerners don’t like that either, because it takes time, effort, and money. And besides, it’s free to go to the GP, and pharmaceutical drugs fix everything without side effects… don’t they?

Now, I don’t want to say we’re dumb. But clearly, we’re not the brightest lot.

Thankfully, everything old becomes new again. Guess what’s trending? Ancient techniques and remedies. Why? Because they’re effective.

Vedic Meditation became widely known in the West in the 70s, thanks to the Beatles practicing it in Rishikesh at a hidden ashram in India. And now, with depression and anxiety so prevalent, the genie is out of the bottle again. Vedic Meditation reduces stress, dissolves stored stresses, improves creativity, and enhances sleep, just to name a few benefits. No wonder it’s gaining popularity.

Aromatherapy—the use of essential oils—acts on the central nervous system, relieving depression and anxiety, reducing stress, and restoring both physical and emotional well-being. Within 20 minutes of topical application, the oils enter the bloodstream—without side effects.

So, if you want to get hip and treat your body to some new-but-old joy, check out some holistic practitioners in your area and tell them I sent you.

There’s a Vedic Sanskrit term, Kaliyuga. It translates to “the age of darkness” or ignorance—and that’s the age we are currently living in.
